Laura Macdonald has returned to Boonwurrung country after a decade living in the mountains of Perú. As an introduction to our Re-Villaging community, she is hosting a free haywarikui (Quechua) or despacho (Spanish) as taught by her Q'ero maestros. The Q'eros are the wisdom keepers of the Andean mountains. Laura has been walking the path of Tahuatinsuyo (the Four Directions) with them for the past five years and is a mesa carrier.
A haywarikui is an offering of sacred reciprocity (ayni) for Mother Earth (Pachamama) that is co-created with everyone who joins us. There are over 50 natural elements and ingredients that Laura will bring to construct it, each one representing things such as good health, safe travel, clear communication, family connection and much more. She will explain some of the elements, but there will also be time to meditate on your own intention and prayers.
All you need to do is collect five leaves to take part (she will bring extras in case you forget) and if you would like to bring along an instrument to join in the song circle that will follow, you are most welcome. Depending on the weather, you might want to also have something warm or a hat. We will be inside but if it's a nice day, we may move outside too. Cushions and mats are available, but also feel free to bring your favourite pillow or mat. If someone needs a chair, please let us know in advance. Children are welcome but sorry animals are not.
Laura will begin the session promptly at 1:30pm by opening the space in the Tahuatinsuyo tradition, where everyone will be invited to call in their ancestors and sacred spots in nature. Then the haywarikui will take place where each person will offer their leaves as prayers for the co-creation. We will finish with a celebration of music.
This ancient offering can be used for many things - to bless a new home, a new baby, a journey, to help someone who is sick, pray for peace in this world..... Together we will create a beautiful offering. What a lovely way to finish the year.
